Description

Three-quarter length portrait of Jane Maria Leavitt Hunt attributed to Spiridione Gambardella. Hunt sits in an ivory silk gown with a low lace-edged neckline, delicately loose sleeves, and simple silhouette. She has a black lace-edged shawl draped around her torso and her hands folded gently across her lap. Her hair is parted at the middle and gently draped to cover her ears before being gathered at the back of her head. Hunt sits on a red striped velvet sofa and gazes into the distance just in front of her right shoulder. The painting resides in a simple carved gilt gesso frame.
