Rectangular paper money issued by the State of Vermont. The bill consists of a white rectangle of paper with cut edges on the top and bottom and torn edges of the two sides; the right is torn straight, but the left is torn quite roughly in a wavy pattern. It is printed with a decorative floral border and the printed inscription, "No. [309] STATE OF VERMONT, TREASURER'S OFFICE, Sunderland, [April 20, 1789] THIS ORDER will be received into the TREASURY for the Sum of [Sixteen pound, one Shilling ---] lawful Money, with Intereft at Six per Cent. per Annum. Agreeably to an act of the Legiflature paffed 24th October, 1788. [£16..1.0] Witnefs, [S. Mattocks] Treafurer." with the bracketed text handwritten in ink.Acquisition
