This sign is similar in age to the other toll road sign in this exhibit dating from the early 1800s. It was used at Toll Gate No. 4 in Stockbridge on the road between Middlebury and Woodstock. It may have hung on the old Cobb Bridge in Stockbridge which was near the donor's home.
