Commemorative pin. The rectangular pin has a black enamel ground with two straight silver fastenings on the back. The front is inscribed "CISS/1975 / WORLD WINTER / GAMES FOR THE / DEAF" in red with a white snowflake in the center and "LAKE PLACID" in white at the bottom.Context
Earned by Herbert P. Holbrook, Austine School for the Deaf Class of 1947, Class A ski jumper, and Olympic cross-country skier, when he completed at the 1975 8th annual World Winter Games for the Deaf. The games, also known as the "Deaflympics," were hosted by CISS: Comite International des Sports des Silencieux.
After graduating from Austine, Holbrook was admitted to the AAAD (American Athletic Association for the Deaf) in 1964, when he also made the New York Times News twice that year. He competed in Berchtesgaden (West Germany) in the 60's and in the Meribel Olympics in France in 1979.Acquisition
