Copper coin with a bust on one side and the allegorical figure, Columbia, on the other. The face side shows a right-facing bust of a Roman figure, wearing a laurel wreath on his head, tied with a ribbon at the nape of his neck, and military armor. The words "VERMON AUCTORI GIV" ring the edge. On the reverse, Columbia is shown swathed in loose fabric, seated next to a shield bearing the Union flag. She is holding a staff with a liberty cap in her left hand, and a small branch in her right hand. The words "INDE ET LIB 88" ring the edge. The coin is overstruck onto another coin, with portions of the previous striking visible on the lower face and lower reverse. The inscription and the center image are very misaligned on the reverse.Context
