This is a wooden pencil box. The words on top of the box are "Pencil Box". In the center of the side of the box, there is a thin metal sheet, with a keyhole. In the interior of the pencil box, there is a slate crayon (pencil), a small metal key, a clip, and a compass. The slate crayon has "956 EAGLE SLATE CRAYON - PA" carved into its exterior. There is also a small carving of an eagle between the numbers "956" and the word "EAGLE". The key is a small, faded black, metal key that is roughly 1-1/8 in. The compass is a silver-colored, metal compass with two long legs. The steady leg is approximately 1/16 in longer than the adjustable leg.Context
This pencil box was given to Fern Souther by her Grandfather Wilbur Suther. Fern Souther was born on June 1st, 1913. Fern attended primary school in Lowell, Vermont, and then graduated from UVM in 1931.Acquisition
