Description

Shield shaped patch with dark blue top-stitched edging. The patch depicts pale gray mountains with a light blue sky in the background and a ski jumper in flight in the middleground. The jumper wears a gray ski suit with matching goggles and cap with black stitched accents. Above the skier are the words, "AMERICAN ATHLETIC / ASS'N. OF THE DEAF" in yellow and "USA" in red across the skis at the bottom of the patch.

Context

Earned by Herbert P. Holbrook who was a class A ski jumper and olympic cross-country skier. He was an alumnus of the Austine School for the Deaf, and admitted to the AAAD (American Athletic Association for the Deaf) in 1964, when he also made the New York Times News twice that year. He competed in Berchtesgaden (West Germany) in the 60's and in the Meribel Olympics in France in 1979.

Patch is in original form as would have been before applied to a garment or fabric-based object. Exhibiting dark top-stitched edging. Stitching on entirety of patch to create its image with all its colors and so fourth. While top lettered stitching may have happened simultaneously to the image stitching (all by machine) the bottom red "USA" appearing as though machine stitched on top of the image stitching below.
