Description

Blue wool overcoat. The coat opens in the center front and secures with 5 brass buttons. The neckline has a fall collar and attached capelet. The capelet buttons down the center front with 5 brass buttons. The buttons on both the coat and capelet are impressed with an eagle and shield. The inscription, "Fifer/T. B. Walter/CoE 15" is hand inked onto the lining of the proper left sleeve near the shoulder. The inscription "U. S. Inspector/Wm. Phillips/[illeg]". The coat is lined in wool with canvas pockets attached to the interior on each side.

Context

Worn by True Blake Walter during the Civil War. Walter served as a musician in Company E, 15th Regiment Vermont.
