Description

Black leather belt with attached cartridge box, bayonet, and bayonet scabbard. The belt has a bras guide on one end and two buckley holes on the other. The cartridge box consists of a leather pouch stretched around a wooden box insert with 20 drilled holes for storing cartridges. Another small, envelope-style pouch is attached to the front of the cartridge box. The cartridge box pouch secures with a flap that covers the whole front, and secures with a strap on a brass stud. The flap is stamped "DIN[illeg] & [illeg]TUG MAKERS NEW YORK". There are two buckles on the bottom of the box. The bayonet scabbard is leather with rivets and a brass tip. The leather is stamped, "HOOVER CAL[ILLEG] CO NEW YORK".

Context

Owned by True Blake Walter during the Civil War. Walter served as a musician in Company E, 15th Regiment Vermont.
