Description

Vermont Union hooked rug. The central design of the rug features an eagle holding a shield and an olive branch in its talons. On the left side of the eagle is Camel's Hump and on the right is Mt. Mansfield. The rug has a border that is 7-1/2 inches wide, which is decorated with oak leaves and acorns, along with red, white, and blue scrolls. Behind the star area of the shield, two small pieces of fusing were applied to support the fabric, which had become weak after several years of use. On the lower right of the back of the rug, there is a tag sewn on that reads: "Vermont Union Rug / Frost Pattern #5 Charlotte Stratton / Mrs. Helen Tracy / 112 Washington Street / Barre, Vermont 05641".
