Description

Tall, brown glass bottle with a square base. The sides of the bottle are molded with the inscriptions, "PAINE'S" and "CELERY COMPOUND".

Context

Made by Col. Milton Kendall Paine of Windsor, Vermont. Paine's Celery Compound contained celery seed, red cinchona, orange peel, coriander seed lemon peel, hydrochloric acid, glycerin, simple syrup, water and alcohol. It purported to heal digestive issues, liver and kidney disease, and to purify the blood.
