Description

Green wool jack with black lining. The jacket has a standing collar and shoulder caps, both trimmed with gold braid. There are gold braid epaulets on either shoulder. The jacket opens in the center front and secures with eight diamond-shaped pewter buttons decorated with a thistle. The sleeves end in sewn-down cuff decorated with gold trim and three matching pewter buttons. There are two-tiered peplum flaps (Inverness flaps) attached to the hem decorated to match the sleeve cuffs. The bottom layer of the flaps on the front of the jacket hide pockets. Sewn to the right back bottom flap is the maker's label: "J. D. MACKAY/ 15th and Passyunk Ave., Phila. and/ 309 W. 42nd St., New York" and written in ink: "(Mr.) Frank Chalmers/ (Date) April 1920"
