Description

Large stoneware baluster- or vase-shaped water cooler with molded and painted decoration in blue. The front is decorated with a molded design of Diana, a woman in a short toga standing with a deer and reaching back for an arrow. The sides are molded with flowers. Between the molded decorations are blue slip designs of floral vines. Toward the bottom is a round hole. Above the hole is the incised inscription, "4/L. W. Fenton/St. Johnsbury". Water cooler made by L.W. Fenton, St. Johnsbury, VT. Incised mark: "4 / L.W. Fenton / St. Johnsbury" Gray stoneware with blue slip and applied decorations including the figure of Diana, flowers, vines and foliage.
