Pair of white silk shoes. The uppers are made from cream-colored satin-woven silk and are constructed in three parts: the toe/front, the back left, and the back right. The upper is lined with glazed linen in the toe and white kid leather in the heel. The insole is white kid leather. The toe of the shoe is square, and the front of the foot opening is square to echo the shape. The soles are straight cut and made of leather. The word, "Droit", is written on the insole of one shoe, indicating that it was worn on the right foot. There is a paper label at the center of one insole that reads, "C. MIDDLETON, Maker, 279 Broadway, NEW-YORK". The numbers, "-5/-864", are inked on the toe of one sole. The foot opening is bound with silk ribbon, and there are two silk ribbons attached at the side seams for tying around the wearer's ankle.Context
