Description

Crupper, piece of horse tack that attaches to the back of a saddle and then runs under the horse's tail to stabilize the saddle. It is comprised of two parts: the crupper itself, an oblong piece of leather that is flat at narrow end with an attached brass ring and rolled at wide semicircular end that sat under horse's tail; and a leather strap with brass buckle to attach crupper to saddle. There are small pieces of chestnut hair (probably horse's tail) stuck in the leather of the rolled piece of crupper. Part of complete tack that belonged to
