Description

Circular patch with light blue top-stitched edging. THe patch has a white ground with a central round inscription that reads "UNITED STATES EASTERN AMATEUR SKI ASSOCIATION" in black embroidered lettering. In the center of the patch is a ski jumper in a red suit against a background of white snow peaks and blue sky.

Context

Earned by Herbert P. Holbrook who was a class A ski jumper and olympic cross-country skier. He was an alumnus of the Austine School for the Deaf, and admitted to the AAAD (American Athletic Association for the Deaf) in 1964, when he also made the New York Times News twice that year. He competed in Berchtesgaden (West Germany) in the 60's and in the Meribel Olympics in France in 1979.

Dark royal blue top stitching edging along periphery of patch exhibiting fraying along edge in multiple places. All of image and wording of patch are all created through many machine-made stitches delineating all points in still-vibrant colors of thread. All colors are found in image while the black also refers to the writing on the exterior.
