Description

Nurse's uniform cape. The exterior of the cape is navy blue wool, and the interior is lined in red wool. The cape opens in the center front, securing over the wearer's chest with two straps that attach on either side to large, brown plastic buttons. The standing collar is embroidered in yellow thread with the letters, "S.V.H." on the either side of the center opening. There is a small pocket on the interior with initial patches reading "M. T. K." A sewn-in nametag reading, "Miss M. Kadas" is attached to the back neckline.

Context

Mary T. Kadas was born in Burlington on December 16, 1940 to James and Gladys (Paquette) Kadas. According to her obituary, she attended St. Vincent's School of Nursing in Bridgeport, CT, graduating with a degree as RN in 1961. She returned to Vermont, working at the Mary Fletcher Hospital and later iterations (now UVMMC) for over 40 years. Career accomplishments include being one of the first ICU nurses in this hospital when the ICU was first opened, working with acclaimed physicians and nurses, and contributing significantly both to her community and healthcare overall.
