Description

Round metal button printed with an image of the Statue of Liberty from the shoulders up on a red ground within a blue border. The inscription, "GET BEHIND THE GOVERNMENT" rings the edge and the inscription, "LIBERTY LOAN OF 1917" is in the middle. The manufacturing information is printed onto a round piece of paper inserted into the back of the button.

Context

Liberty Loans were bonds sold to help with the war effort during World War I. There were two issues in 1917 and two in 1918. This button was owned by Margaret Emmons of Montpelier, Vermont.
