Civil War era McLellan saddle. The interior wood tree is covered by rawhide leather. The top of the is tree covered in black leather, and the pommel and cantle are edged in brass. The skirts are black leather, attached to saddle with brass screws. There are three brass-edged slots in the cantle; the pommel has one slot, surrounded by shield-shaped brass (with no inscription). A quilted seat cover affixes over the top via slots and rivets; the seat cover is black leather on top, with rough twill woven fabric on back. There are multiple rings front and back to attach gear. Leather girth buckles to right side of saddle, with cinch strap sewn to D-ring on saddle at left side, that goes through d-ring on girth and then buckles to secure. Stirrups are constructed of wood and covered with black leather. The stirrups each have a leather hood attached with leather covered brass rivets. Leg guards are of thick leather, with leather loops that stirrup leathers slide through.Context
