Description

Ceremonial military saddle cover (shabrack or shabraque). It is placed over a saddle, with slots for the stirrup leathers to come through. There are eagle patches on each side. The left side has two star patches above eagle. The right side has no stars, but there is a clear outline where a star was affixed. Two wide bands of copper metallic thread run around the edges. It is constructed of blue cotton canvas over at least two layers of burlap quilted to a tan canvas printed with a blue vine and flower pattern. There is an extra layer of burlap stitched over inside position of the shabraque that directly covered the seat of the saddle. The outer edges are edged in leather; leather also covers a portion of the shabraque at the rear, and leather patches are present where the stirrup leathers come through.
