Description

A commemorative medal (a) and certificate (b) from the Italian Campaign issued to Martin Paul on Sept. 11, 1860. The medal hangs from an red and white striped ribbon and was sent by "two old Frenchmen" who said it belonged to their great-grandfather. Also two notes from the donors (c and d), the envelop (e) in which the gift was packaged and a photograph (f) of boats and one boatman at an undisclosed location in France.

Context

Given to the people of Vermont from the people of France as part of the Merci Train after World War II.
