From the Rutland Daily Herald, Feb. 27, 1911:
The funeral of Henry Warner Cheney of Pleasant street, who died at the Rutland City hospital Saturday afternoon following a short illness, will be held at the house at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon. The ritual of the Grand Army of the Republic will follow the services. Rev. Dr. Norman Seaver pronouncing the benediction. There will also be Masonic services at the grave. Mr. Cheney's death was due to hemorrhage of the brain.
Mr. Cheney was born in Rutland June 19, 1840, and was the son of Hiram L. and Mary Curtis Cheney. He was educated in the schools of this city and later attended the Eastman Business college at Poughkeepsie, N.Y. When the Civil war broke out he joined the 12th Vermont regiment and saw nine months of service, after which he joined the commissary department and served until the final cessation of hostilities.
After the war Mr. Cheney returned to Rutland and engaged in the dry goods and grocery business with his brother, the late George H. Cheney, their location being at the corner of Main and West streets, later moving to the corner of Strongs avenue and Madison streets, where the business was located until Mr. Cheney retired about a year ago. Mr. Cheney was prominently identified with Roberts post, No. 14, G.A.R., Center lodge of Masons and with the Congregational church.
On November 14, 1865, Mr. Cheney was married to Miss Jane E. Davey of this city, by whom he is survived. He is also survived by five daughters, Mrs. J.A. Barrett of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Ralph Stoddard of New York city, Miss Lucy D. Cheney of this city, Mrs. D.W. Fisher of Albany, N.Y., and Miss A. Marion Cheney of New York city and one son, Albert H. Cheney of Montreal, P.Q. He also leaves eight grandchildren.Acquisition
