Tracing Wheel

Name/Title

Tracing Wheel

Entry/Object ID

1959.56.3

Description

Tracing wheel consisting of a metal wheel set into a round wooden handle. The wheel is connected to the handle at the center point, around a nail. The outer edge of the wheel has closely-placed, rounded teeth.

Use

Used to trace sewing patterns onto fabric. This would be done by placing transfer paper between the pattern and the fabric. When run over the pattern, the teeth on the wheel would press the transfer paper to the surface of the fabric, transferring the color to the fabric to create a dotting line.
