The Selective Service is the part of the federal government that is responsible for registering and keeping track of males eligible to be drafted for military service. First cretaed in 1917 during WWI, Selective Service laws have been changed and modified depending on the needs of the military, This sign hung at the Selective Service office in Montpelier from the early 1950s until the office closed in the 1980s.
