Description

Composite "General Pershing" doll dressed in a khaki military uniform. The doll has a molded and painted face, with red lips and blue eyes looking to the doll's right. The body and limbs are made of heavy linen stuffed with sawdust. The hands, head, and books are composition. The doll is jointed with the arms and legs attaching to the torso with 3/4-inch plates and screws on the right, and heavy staples on the left.

Context

Owned by Sylvia Jarvis Smith in Barre, Vermont. Sylvia was given the doll by her uncle, who was a sailor during World War I.
