Description

Large bronze plaque with the label, "KINSTEAD / THE SHELTER HOME OF THE BOARD OF CHARITIES AND PROBATION OPENED APRIL 8, 1922 FOR THE RECEPTION OF THE CHILDREN COMMITTED TO ITS CARE BY THE COURTS OF THE STATE." It goes on to list the members of the board and the several fraternal organizations that donated money to build and run the site.

Context

Kinstead was an institution for housing children without homes who otherwise didn't qualify for disability placement. After Kinstead closed in 1958, the property served as a home for children with mental differences called the Green Mountain Special School. It was most recently the headquarters of the New England Culinary Institute.
