Description

Pair of beaded, epaulets for a man's coat. Central quatrefoil in red and white flanked by green and yellow scrolls and yellow and blue flowers.

Context

These beaded “Wabanaki Quatrefoil” Epaulets seem a bit later than the other beaded items in the Abenaki Cultural Conservancy collection. The central quatrefoils are identical in color and construction to those found on a pair of moccasin vamps with a Waterville, Vermont provenance. Unfortunately, many of the other stylistic details such as bugle-beaded scrolls and the blue and yellow flowers are unlike other regional items from the period.
