Description

White cotton shirt. The shirt has long, loosely-fitted sleeves and a band collar. The neckline opens at the center front, reaching to the wearer's mid-chest and securing to the neck with 2 white buttons. The bottom hem is slit open at the side seams, and fully hemmed within the slits. A faded stamp at the lower left reads, "Hosp. U.S.A. DEPI".

Context

Worn by Joseph F. Laird of Topsham, Vermont, when he came home from the Civil War.
