Description

Cotton and wool hooked rug. It is designed in segments, with a circular emblem at the top center with the initials "GAR". The circle is flanked by the letter A and number 9, and 2 6-pointed stars. At the center bottom is the label, "24 AC" flanked by 2 upside-down hearts with the number 2 in the center.

Context

Owned by Harvey S. Powers of Lyndonville, Vermont. Powers was in Co. A, 9th VT Vol and was active in the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), a fraternal organization for Union veterans of the Civil War.
