Description

Mourning badge consisting of a long black ribbon and a metal bar pin. The bar pin has a paper name tag printed with the initials "G.A.R." (now partially missing). The ribbon is printed in silver with the inscription, "HONOR THE NOBEL DEAD / RICHARD B. CRANDALL Post No. 56 G. A. R. BARRE, VT." The top of the ribbon is printed with an image of an urn, and a ribbon American flag has been appliqued over it. At the center of the ribbon is a round medallion printed with an image of a GAR membership ribbon and the inscription, "GRAND ARMY OF THE REPBUBLIC". The bottom edge is decorated with silver tassels.

Owned by Emery L. Smith of Northfield, Vermont. Smith was the first mayor of Barre City, Vermont.
