Description

Small silver cross in the "Cross of Lorraine" style. Two pairs of arms with the lower arms the same length as the base of the cross and the upper arms the same length as the upright of the cross. All arms have trefoil ends and piercings. Includes modern chain constructed of vintage delft beads.

Context

The little early 19th century style cross of Lorraine was made in large quantities by Montreal silversmiths, usually for trade to the Upper Great Lakes, where the bulk of the beaver trade was during the period. The cross is very thin metal with an unintelligible touchmark.
