Wooden folding chair with needlepoint upholstery. The chair folds by lifting the seat, causing the X-shaped legs to collapse together. The top of the back is press carved with an Eastlake style pattern. The seat back is stitched with an image of an indigenous American man in a white-feathered war bonnet. The label "SITTING-BULL" is stitched across the bottom. The sling-style chair seat is embroidered with a geometric pattern of concentric squares. The front left corner is embroidered with the initials "F.E.H.", and the front right corner is stitched with the date, "1957". Where the chair seat wraps around the frame at the back is the stitched label, "CHAIR ANTE----DATES 1880".Context
