Membership ribbon consisting of three bars, ribbon, and medallion. The upper bar is in the shape of a spread eagle over crossed cannons. A second bar pin is pinned onto the ribbon and consists of a gold border, blue ground, and two gold leaves. The third bar pin is also pinned onto the ribbon and consists of a gold border, black ground, and silver eagle. The ribbon is woven to look like a small United States flag. The medallion is in the shape of a five-pointed star. At the center of the star is a group of men shaking hands over a woman on her knees. The man on the left is in a naval uniform, and the man on the right is wearing a forage cap and has his left hand on a child's head. A third figure, much taller than the other two stands in the background. The group is flanked by flags, and the inscription, "GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC / 1961 VETERAN 1866", rings the scene. Each point of the star bears a military symbol: two crossed swords, two crossed long guns, two crossed cannons, a curved horn, and an anchor. There is a bar connecting the top two points, indicating that the star originally hung from a ribbon.Context
