GAR membership badge consisting of a round medallion hanging from a stamped metal pin. The pin is shaped like a spread eagle holding a saber over crossed cannons and ten cannonballs. The medallion shows the center of the GAR seal. At the center is a group of men shaking hands over a woman on her knees. The man on the left is in a naval uniform, and the man on the right is wearing a forage cap and has his left hand on a child's head. A third figure, much taller than the other two stands in the background. The group is flanked by flags, and the inscription, "GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC / 1961 VETERAN 1866", rings the scene. The back of the medallion shows the same seal, but within the star shape of the traditional GAR membership badge.Context
