Commemorative medal consisting of a a bar, a ribbon, and a medallion. The bar has decorative scrollwork and the inscription, "SOUVENIR". The ribbon is red with blue and white striped borders. From an eye ring at the bottom of the ribbon hangs a round gold medal with the inscription, "ALTERA MERCES / ADMIRAL DEWEY RECEPTION COMMITTEE WASHINGTON OCTOBER MDCCCXCIX". The other side of the medal has a bust portrait of Admiral George Dewey.Context
