Crewel embroidered counterpane. The ground fabric is plain-woven wool in a windowpane plaid design. The "panes" are white, and the stripes of the plaid are dark blue, yellow, and light blue. All four edges of the counterpane are bordered in widened version of the multi-colored stripe. Each pane is crewel embroidered with wool yarn in dark blue, light blue, yellow and white. The designed alternate between four-pointed stars with floral vines or medallions in the center and floral bouquets. One pane is marked with the initials ABW in cross stitches.Context
