Description

Commemorative ribbon consisting of a bar, ribbon, and medallion. The bar is molded with the word, "GUEST". The grosgrain ribbon is striped red, white, and blue, and looped through a wire at the back of the bar. The front of the medallion shows a bust of a man wearing military clothing with large epaulets and the inscription, "DEO NOBIS MAGNAM VICTORIAM DARE PLACUIT" ("God has given us victory and decided"). The back of the medallion has the inscription, "MACDONOUGH CENTENNIAL VERGENNES, VERMONT. SEPTEMBER 6-9, 1914".

Context

Worn to the centennial celebration of the Battle of Plattsburgh. Shipwrights in Vergennes were instrumental in building the American ships utilized in the battle.
