Description

Round metal button with a white illustration of the cracked liberty bell on a blue ground with the inscription, "THIRD LIBERTY LOAN". There is a red border around the edge of the button. The pin on the reverse has been removed.

Context

Liberty Loans were bonds sold to help with the war effort during World War I. There were four bond issues, two in 1917 and two in 1918. This button is from the third, which took place in April of 1918.
