1961.39.1Description
Wooden weathervane in the shape of a three-masted ship. The base is formed from a wooden box with straight sides, bottom, and back, and a pointed front. There are three upright masts, each with two yards for sails (not present) and a bowsprit. Metal wires stretch between the masts and from them to the sides of the ship, representing lines. A irregularly-shaped wooden board forms a trysail attached to the mizzen mast by three wire loops, allowing it to pivot.Context
Used on the barn of William C. Jarvis in Weathersfield, Vermont. Jarvis served as consul to Portugal and introduced merino sheep to Vermont.Acquisition
