Description

Medal-style pin consisting of two parts with a connecting ribbon. The upper part shows an eagle and two hammers or gavels with the inscription, "Jr. O.U.A.M." (Junior Order of United American Mechanics). The lower portion is shaped into a shield with a Masonic imagery in the center. The ribbon is the American flag. Gold and silver jewel Masonic pin with hand-written history of the original recipient and his family. Housed in small leather case. Stamped "14K", "10K" and "sterling silver". Flag in center is enameled. Over the flag is a banner that reads, "Jr. O.U.A.M" which stands for Junior Order of United American Mechanics. The pin belonged to Claude Cheney Deval (1897-1963) of West Burke, Vt. He was a general storekeeper and postmaster in West Burke.

Owned by Claude Cheney Deval, a shopkeeper and postmaster from West Burke, Vermont. The Order of United American Mechanics was an anti-Catholic American Nativist organization.
