Context

Medicine Shoppe International was established in 1970, two years after pharmacist Michael Busch founded the first Medicine Shoppe pharmacy in St. Louis, MO. In 1971, the first franchised Medicine Shoppe pharmacy opened. In 1995, Cardinal Health acquired MSI, and in 2003 MSI acquired Medicap Pharmacies Inc. Today, most of Medicine Shoppe’s locations are franchised to individual owners, many of which are also the location’s pharmacist. Busch’s ‘pharmacist-run’ business model has stayed with the company as a way to provide focused service to customers. An article about the now closed Medicine Shoppe in Barre in the Times Argus in 2020 said, "A fixture on South Main Street for nearly 35 years, The Medicine Shoppe in Barre was owned locally for two decades, but had changed hands at least twice since 2006. At the time it was closed, its listed owner was Barre Pharmacy LLC. Members of the limited liability corporation include Jaimin, Mayur and Tejas Patel, all of New York."
