Description

White nurse's long-sleeved uniform dress or smock with long, wide collar. The dress buttons up the center front with white plastic buttons, hidden beneath a placket, from the upper thigh to the neckline. The waist of the dress is not shaped, but held with a wide belt that runs through belt loops at the sides and secures with two white plastic buttons at the center front. Fullness is added to the hips at either side by gathers just beneath the belt loops. There are two large patch pockets on either side of the hips.

Context

Worn by Ruby Grace Stone, who trained as a nurse in Burlington, Vermont, during WWI.
