Sterling Silver commemorative medal. One side of the medal is molded with waves across the middle with the inscription, "VERMONT 77 BICENTENNIAL BURLINGTON" above. The other side of the medal is molded with the inscription, "BURLINGTON HARBOR / 1858" around the edge and a scene of ships in water with the Burlington cityscape in the background.Context
Reportedly made to commemorate the US Bicentennial celebration, but no information was found as to who had the medal produced.
Small note with the medal says Preston's , 2-76, $15, #379, which is perhaps a reference to the medal's cost and the store at which it was sold, Preston's jewelry, once located in downtown Burlington and run by at least three generations of Prestons, Frank, William Sr. and William Jr. and perhaps Sandy, until it closed in 1994.Acquisition
