Description

Long-sleeved grey cotton uniform dress with white detachable collar, cuffs, and epaulets. The dress opens down the center front and secures with eleven white, plastic buttons. There are three front pockets: two on the hips and one on the right breast. The breast pocket has a square white patch with an embroidered red cross. The top of the pocket has a rectangular name tag pinned to it reading "Mrs. Schoppe". Above the nametag is a bar pin showing blue sides with a white center and a red cross. The upper right sleeve has a round white patch with a red cross in the center and the words, "AMERICAN RED CROSS VOLUNTEER" around the edge. Beneath the patch are three additional embroidered red patches: two chevrons and a bar. There is a self-fabric belt around the waist that secures at the front with two white plastic buttons.

Context

Worn by Cora Parkhurst Schoppe of Burlington, Vermont, in both military hospitals and Mary Fletcher Hospital. The insignia on the right arm indicates nine years of service.
