Oil portrait of a middle-aged woman with dark hair. She is shown seated in front of a dark background with her right arm resting on a plain wooden table. She is wearing a blue or grey dress with voluminous sleeves set low on her shoulders, and a wide, black belt around her waist. She has a large, frilled cap made of sheer white fabric is two long lappets hanging in front of her shoulders and extending from the center back of the cap. She is also wearing a fichu made of sheer white fabric. There is a small, oval brooch at her center neckline. Her dark hair is held in elaborate waves or rolls at the front, and hidden beneath the cap in the back. The canvas has been removed from the stretchers.
