Description

Band unform hat. The crown of the hat is light blue on the sides and navy blue on the top. It has a short, black leather brim. There is a large brass insignia at the center front in the shape of a shield within a lyre, with two cannons beneath, and sheet music and two horns above.

Context

Worn by Philip Farrell as a member of Sherman's Band, formerly Burlington Band. Farrell joined the band in the 1870s playing cornet.
