This is a gold brooch with a retractable watch chain coiled inside. There is a gold wire loop on the end of the chain where a watch would attach. When the loop is pulled, the chain uncoils from inside the brooch, and then springs back into the brooch upon release. The brooch has a satin gold finish (not shiny), and the back of the case is gold paint. The brooch has a pin back with no safety catch.
