The drum has counterhoops made of dark-stained maple, each with eight holes for stringing rope. Each rim has eight iron hooks placed over the holes. Rope (not original) is strung in a zigzag pattern between the hooks. There are eight leather braces (four original). The original braces have two lobes with serrated edges and a flower design stamped onto each lobe. There are six gut snares, each with a leather tab at one end and a brass tensioner at the other end. The heads are vellum over wood fleshhoops. The drum has a printed label that reads, "Massachusetts Drum Manufactory John C.
