Description

Rosewood flue and wooden case. The flute is made in two piece--the body and the headpiece--and has five nickel bands and a nickel key (E flat). Beneath the key is the stamped label, "C. Peloubet New York Factory at Bloomfield N.J." There are six finger holes. The wooden case hinges open along one of the long sides and is lined in printed cotton. The exterior is decorated with brass tacks and semi-circular stamps. There is an ornate lock plate marked "TBW". The top of the case has a drawer pull as a handle.

Context

Owned by True Blake Walter during the Civil War. Walter served as a musician in Company E, 15th Regiment Vermont.
