Description

Birch bark canoe. The canoe is curved with a flat base and tapers into points on either end. The exterior is a natural brownish red with slightly darker central section. A single band of bright red runs just below the gunwales. The entirety of the opening’s edges are lined with an additional thin piece of wood. Three wooden thwarts span across the inside of the canoe. The exterior is supported by curved wooden ribs.

Context

It is a southern Quebec piece, from the Lake Memphremagog Basin area in the Nulhegan Tribal homeland. It is large and totally native in all aspects.
